Come and learn the basics of sustainable and organic gardening. Whether you are transitioning from conventional to organic gardening practices or looking to sharpen up your organic skills, there will be lots to learn and discuss. We'll cover the basics of soil science and how to enrich soil to produce healthy high yielding plants. We'll take the mystery out of composting, talk about green manures and nutrient management, and get into the benefits of crop rotation. And since we all need to do garden troubleshooting, we'll explore basic weed control strategies, common insect pests, and methods of natural insect control.

Intensive planting has its own list of benefits, and it's inspiring to add the additional benefits of companion planting. Explore how the combination leads to more beautify, and increased and more diverse harvest, improved habitat for wildlife and pollinators, and contributes to both water conservation and week suppression. We'll also discuss how succession planting can fit nicely into the planting scheme, adding still more to your garden.

We'll review how to grow herbs well, and then learn how to maximize your harvest by understanding the growth habits of each plant. Preserving your herbs, in many different ways, will then give you the pleasure of having them available year round! Resources will include recipes for easy as well as more complicated blends to enjoy!
